FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- A Bridgeport man turned himself into Fairfield police on charges he took a $50,000 Lexus from the Fairfield Lexus lot and totaled the car.
Police report that on June 29, Keith Mitchell, 53, took a gray 2013 Lexus RX 350 from the lot on Kings Highway where he was working as a valet and then was involved in a three-car accident in Bridgeport that resulted in the totaling of the car and sending several people to the hospital.
The dealership reported to the police on July 1 that the car had been stolen and that they suspected Mitchell took it.
In July, Mitchell was called into the Fairfield Police Department for questioning where he told police he had taken the car earlier that day to go to the bank and left with it after his work day ended.
Mitchell was charged with taking the car without permission and was released on a promise to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Sept. 13.
