FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A West Haven man was charged Friday with taking a woman’s purse and using her credit cards to ring up more than $1,000 in charges, according to Fairfield Police reports.
The theft was reported at The Pantry on the Post Road in Fairfield on Sept 16. A woman told police that her purse was taken from a shopping cart while at the store that afternoon.
Investigators found that one of the woman’s credit cards was used at the 7-11 store on Reef Road later that day. Joseph Biancheri, 23, of West Haven was captured on video using the card, police say. Citibank fraud investigators also traced more than $1,000 in other charges made in Derby, Milford and West Haven to Biancheri, according to police reports.
Biancheri has been in police custody since October relating to charges of burglary and credit card theft in Wallingford and Milford, according to state court records. He was served with an arrest warrant for the Fairfield incident at Bridgeport Superior Court Friday. He was charged with sixth-degree larceny, attempted fifth-degree larceny, illegal use of a credit card and illegally receiving goods and services, all misdemeanors. He was arraigned Friday and held in lieu of a $5,000 bond.
