Police were dispatched to a home on Hales Court at around 12:30 a.m. Monday on a report of a disturbance. When they arrived, they encountered the woman, who said that the suspect, 22-year-old Charles Ayala of Upper Darby, Penn., was inside the home. Officers went inside and found Ayala detained by the woman's son and another friend, police said.

According to police reports, the son and Ayala had been partying that night at the Hales Court address and at a home on Inwood Lane when Ayala became intoxicated and left in a vehicle on Inwood Lane for the night. At around midnight, he returned to the Hales Court address and entered the home, police said.

Ayala then went up to the woman's bedroom while she was sleeping, according to police. She awoke to find him turning the lights on as he was walking towards her and attempting to unbuckle his pants, according to police.

She was able to push by him and run downstairs, and Ayala followed her, police said. As she grabbed her coat, he touched her inappropriately outside her clothing with his hands, according to police.

The woman ran to the kitchen, grabbed her phone and ran outside, police said. Sh ran to a neighbor's home and began banging on the door for help when Ayala placed both his hands on her shoulders and began pulling her towards him, according to police. The neighbor then opened the door, pulled the woman inside and told Ayala to leave, police said. He went back inside the woman's home. Polices aid the woman was not injured in the incident.

The woman's son and another friend arrived at her home and had an altercation with Ayala, who police said began fighting with them when they arrived to help the woman. That's when officers arrived and took Ayala into custody, police said.

Ayala was charged with first-degree burglary, fourth-degree sexual assault, second-degree unlawful restraint and creating a public disturbance. He was held on a $100,000 bond, which was reduced to $25,000 by the Bail Commissioner. He appeared in court on Monday.
