According to police, Santiago Patino-Cardenas, 24, of Bridgeport, was stopped at the bank while trying to cash two checks from the Jewish Home for the Elderly for $955.10 from the payroll account.
Patino-Cardenas went to the bank with another individual in a car, with full knowledge that the checks were fake, police said.
Police are still investigating the second person involved.
Patino-Cardenas was charged with fifth-degree criminal attempt at larceny, fifth-degree conspiracy to commit larceny, second-degree forgery and second-degree conspiracy to commit forgery. He was released on a written promise to appear in court on May 12.
