Man Charged With Trying To Use Fake Checks At Fairfield Bank

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Fairfield police were called to the TD Bank on the Post Road after a teller said a man was trying to cash a fraudulent check Thursday afternoon, police said.

Santiago Patino-Cardenas, 24, was charged by Fairfield police with criminal attempt at larceny in the fifth degree, conspiracy to commit larceny in the fifth degree, forgery in the second degree and conspiracy to commit forgery in the second degree.

According to police, Santiago Patino-Cardenas, 24, of Bridgeport, was stopped at the bank while trying to cash two checks from the Jewish Home for the Elderly for $955.10 from the payroll account.

Patino-Cardenas went to the bank with another individual in a car, with full knowledge that the checks were fake, police said.

Police are still investigating the second person involved.

Patino-Cardenas was charged with fifth-degree criminal attempt at larceny, fifth-degree conspiracy to commit larceny, second-degree forgery and second-degree conspiracy to commit forgery. He was released on a written promise to appear in court on May 12.
