Police said Michael Harris, 29, entered Mill Variety & Video convenience store on Dec. 22, carrying a semiautomatic hand gun. He demanded cash from a female clerk and fled the Howe Avenue store on foot with approximately $300, police said.

During the same timeframe, similar armed robberies occurred in Torrington, Middlebury, Winsted, Southington, Derby, Naugatuck and Milford.

A joint effort among the police departments in all of those communities led police to Harris, who was already incarcerated on robbery charges and held on $150,000 when he was arrested for the Shelton incident.

He was charged with first-degree robbery and sixth-degree larceny, police said.
