Marijuana Arrests Made At Fairfield Colleges, Park

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Four marijuana arrests were made in Fairfield over the last few days, three at the town's two universities and one in a town park, according to police reports. In all four cases officers seized more than the half-ounce threshold for criminal charges, police say.

Two of the arrests were made at Fairfield University. In one case, campus public safety officers allegedly found a cigar containing marijuana outside a parked car with three male occupants, according to the police report.

When officers arrived, they found 40.5 grams of marijuana in small baggies in a cooler in the car's trunk, Fairfield Police say. The car’s owner, Sean Passaretti, 18, of Glen Head, N.Y., was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors. Passaretti, who is not a student at the university, was released at the scene and is due in court Sept. 28.

The second case at Fairfield University occurred Monday evening when public safety officers reported smelling marijuana smoke in the hall of a dormitory. A 19-year-old student from St. James, N.Y., was found to have less than a half ounce of marijuana in his room and was issued an infraction for possession.

Another student directed police to the room of Daniel Lorusso, 19, of New Canaan where officers found 1.9 ounces of marijuana along with a scale and several plastic bags, according to police reports. He was charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana and paraphernalia and released at the scene. He is due in court Oct. 1.

A 17-year-old Fairfield resident was arrested at Sacred Heart University early Saturday when a public safety officer smelled marijuana smoke during a walk on campus and discovered a juvenile with two bags of marijuana, police say. The Fairfield teen was issued a juvenile summons for marijuana possession and is due in court Oct. 5.

The fourth arrest came in the parking lot of Lake Mohegan Saturday night when a police officer saw a car in the lot after hours. The occupant, Raj Kumar, 20, of Fairfield, originally told police he was looking for a friend’s house, but later admitted that he had marijuana in his car, according to police reports.

Officers believe Kumar was going to conduct a drug deal because of cash found in the car, police say. He was charged with possession of marijuana and illegal sale of drugs, both misdemeanors. He was released after posting a $500 bond and is due in court Sept. 28.
