Medical Examiner Rules Drowning On Fairfield Border Was A Homicide

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- The death of a 42-year-old man who drowned in August in Ash Creek behind a bar in Bridgeport after a fight, has officially been ruled a homicide by the Chief Medical Examiner for the State of Connecticut.

An autopsy determined the cause of death as drowning with blunt force trauma of the head and neck, the medical examiner said. 

Bentley, of West Haven, was found about 1 a.m. Aug. 1, in the water of Ash Creek behind Chubby’s Bar & Grill at 3488 Fairfield Ave. on the Bridgeport/Fairfield line. 

His death was the 11th homicide of the year in Bridgeport. 

Bridgeport Police said they received a call regarding the fight and found Bentley floating in the water behind the bar shortly after officers arrived.

Witnesses told police that Bentley and another man had gotten into a fight and both fell into the water. The other individual fled.
