Witnesses told police that a four door 2010 Nissan was stopped at a red light and didn't move when the light turned. The car behind the Nissan honked, prompting the Nissan to speed forward and strike the phone poll.

When police arrived on the scene they found the driver of the Nissan on the ground outside the driver's door complaining of chest pains. Paramedics came and took the driver to St. Vincent's Hospital.

The driver told police he had been at Toads Place in New Haven the night before and woke up this morning in an unknown parking lot, police said. He said that he attempted to make the commute to work, but didn't remember driving into the pole, only being stopped at the light.

Police are currently investigating the accident.
