New York Man Charged In One-Car Accident In Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A New York man was charged with drunk driving in Fairfield Saturday night after he drove his black Jeep in to a stone wall while turning off Longfellow Avenue, police said.

Police said Matthew Poole, 39, of Wappingers Falls, was driving southbound of Longfellow when he left the road, struck the stone wall and continued to make a turn onto Castle Avenue. His Jeep sustained right side damage, including a flattened and torn front tire in the 8:30 p.m. accident, police said.

Poole failed field sobriety tests and was charged with driving under the influence, evading responsibility and failure to drive right, police said.

He was release on $100 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on June 20, police said.
