FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Fairfield police were called to the BJ's Wholesale Club on Thursday evening after a cashier reported that two people had attempted to use 10 counterfeit $20 bills.

According to the police report, a white female and a black male entered the store and attempted to pay for $206 in merchandise with the counterfeit bills.

The woman had gone into the store the previous day to get a membership card using a Louisiana driver's license, police said. When she and the black male returned Thursday she changed the personal membership to a business one, police said.

When they attempted to pay for the items, the cashier began asking questions about the money, and the pair left the store, police said.

Fairfield police said the BJ's in Derby reported that the same business account was used to purchase two iPads and $100 in gift cards by two black men and a black female.

The earlier incident prompted the cashier to ask about the bills, police say.

The woman and man from the Fairfield incident left the store in a Ford sedan with New York plates, police say.

Police were continuing to investigate the situation.
