Charles Grace was arrested late Wednesday night and charged with home invasion, threatening, disorderly conduct and second-degree criminal mischief.

Grace broke into the home while his girlfriend was alone there, police said.

After forcing his way inside the home, Grace began to verbally abuse his girlfriend and displayed a knife that he had brought with him, police said.

He damaged items in the home, then left before officers arrived, police said.

The victim said that the night before, Grace had been verbally abusive and struck her with an unknown object when she was attempting to leave their home, police said.

The home invasion was reported by the victim's mother, who was on the phone with her daughter when it occurred, police said.

Grace was later taken into custody by the Bridgeport Police Department at his home and transported to Easton, where he was arrested and bond was set at $50,000.

He was unable to post bond and was detained overnight to appear in court Thursday, April 13.
