FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A Fairfield University student was charged with drug possession after his cell phone number was listed on a business card advertising marijuana sales, police say.

The university’s public safety department showed investigators business cards advertising “Bean Marijuana Inc.” and listing a phone number. The number belonged to James Torpey, 18, of Roxbury, Mass., according to police reports.

The Fairfield Police Narcotics Division hired an informant to buy marijuana from Torpey at his on-campus dorm room multiple times, police say. While serving a search warrant at the dorm room, police found marijuana, cash and drug paraphernalia, according to police reports.

Torpey was charged with possession of drugs with intent to sell, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He also faces an additional charge of drug possession within 1,500 feet of a school because of his dorm’s proximity to Fairfield Prep. He was released on a promise to appear in court and is due to face the charges Dec. 12.
