Christopher Cyr, 23, of Main Street, has been charged with fifth-degree larceny, third-degree identity theft, criminal impersonation and second-degree forgery. He is accused of stealing two checks valued at $500 each from a Fairfield resident and forging his wife’s signature before cashing them, police said.

On June 13, Cyr cashed one check at a Chase Bank in Fairfield and one at a Chase Bank in Stratford, police said.

According to police reports, about four days later on June 17, five more checks were reported missing before the resident closed the account.

Detectives obtained photos from the banks on June 26, according to police, and were able to identify Cyr from previous incidents.

Police said they brought Cyr in for interview on July 8 at which point he told investigators that he had been led to believe the checks were legitimate and from an investor in a clothing business that Cyr was trying to launch.

He told police to give him three days and he would provide the name of the person whom the checks originated from, but he never returned, police said.

Cyr was arraigned Dec. 8 and released on a promise to appear in court on Dec. 16.
