The son of the homeowners called Fairfield police to report the burglary on Saturday, March 14. While checking the residence as he regularly does while his parents are away, he noticed the home had been burglarized, police said. He said the burglary had occurred at some point in the past two weeks, police said.

The homeowners, according to the son, have been away from the home and out of town since January, police said. Their son said he is responsible for checking the property, police said.

Upon investigation, officers were able to determine that several paintings from the home had been taken off the walls, several second floor rooms were ransacked and a safe containing $100,000 worth of gold and silver bars was missing from the master bedroom, according to Fairfield Police.

Also, a gun case had been broken into and several firearms were missing, police said.

Police found no sign of forced entry. It is believed the point of entry was through a back living room window that was left unlocked and ajar, according to the police report.

The Fairfield Fire Department responded along with police officers to test a white powder that was found about the house, later identified as probable discharge from a fire extinguisher, police said.

Fairfield’s detective bureau responded to the scene and conducted interviews at neighboring residences. Police said one neighbor said they had noticed a pickup truck in the driveway recently that they thought belonged to a handyman.

The neighbor also reported that an exterior alarm had repeatedly gone off in the middle of the night, according to police.
