FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A Bridgeport man suspected of stealing from unlocked cars was tackled and held to the ground by a Fairfield resident Sunday night, according to police reports.

An Adelaide Road resident called police to report that he was holding a man he suspected of burglary, according to the incident report. The Fairfield resident told police he saw Edwin Santos, 21, of Bridgeport in his unlocked car, went out to confront him, and held him to the ground until officers arrived. A flashlight and a cell phone charger from the resident's car were found on Santos, according to police reports.

Another Adelaide Road resident told police his car, also left unlocked outside his home, was entered as well. Police found several items in a backpack Santos was carrying, including a GPS unit with a Halley Avenue “home” address in its memory. When police went to the address, the resident said the unit had also been stolen from an unlocked car, according to the police report.

Santos was charged with three counts of third-degree burglary and two counts of sixth-degree larceny. He was released after posting a $1,000 bond and is due in court on Dec. 27.
