Police said Benjamin Wignall, 22, of North Benson Road, initially called 911 at about 3:30 a.m. to report that a fellow traveler may have overdosed on the northbound train platform.

Once on the scene, officers found a 20-year-old victim, who was crying, and his mother, neither of whom were with Wignall, police said.

As they tried to assess the situation, Wignall, who had been out with friends in Stamford and was carrying a case of Budweiser, kept getting in the way, officers said.

Wignall dropped the beer and some bottles smashed, police said. He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct when he threw a beer at the officers, police said.

He was released on a promise to appear in court on April 11.
