Jennifer Guthrie, 57, of Burr Street, was arrested by Fairfield Police on Wednesday after officers who responded to the scene investigated the cause of the driveway mishap, according to authorities. Police said Guthrie answered the door and was using a broom to hold her balance.

When officers asked Guthrie what caused the incident, she said she had been trying to move her husband's car -- which she rarely drives -- and the vehicle “jumped” on her, propelling her into her garage, and subsequently striking the 2009 Mercedes-Benz parked inside the left part of the garage, police said.

Officers who spoke with Guthrie reported a strong smell of alcohol on her breath, glassy eyes and slurred speech, according to police.

Guthrie admitted that she had been drinking vodka since about 9 a.m. Wednesday, police said. According to police, Guthrie failed all field sobriety test that she consented to and was taken to Fairfield Police Headquarters on Reef Road without incident.

Guthrie has been charged with driving under the influence and was released on $30 bond. She is scheduled to appear in court March 9.
