Jervon Winston, 22, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was declared dead at the scene of the crash at 11:35 p.m. Aug. 14, the Post said.

Winston's rented 2015 Chrysler 200 was heading south near Exit 46 of the Merritt near the Fairfield-Trumbull border when the crash occurred, state police said.

The car began taking the exit ramp but failed to negotiate the curve, state police said. The car continued straight off the road and into the woods, slamming into a tree, state police said. The crash occurred near the rest area.
