Police Identify Teen Killed When BMW Slammed Into Tree In Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. — Stamford police have identified the 19-year-old passenger who was killed and the 20-year-old driver who was seriously injured in a one-car crash into a tree on Washington Boulevard near Scalzi Park, according to the Stamford Advocate.

Both men were extricated from the wreckage of the BMW, which slammed into a tree on Wednesday afternoon. 

Donte Smith, the 19-year-old passenger, died of his injuries at Stamford Hospital, according to the Stamford Advocate.

The driver, Kadeem Mitchell, 20, was in critical condition Friday afternoon, the Advocate said.

Police are investigating the cause but said the BMW was traveling at a high rate of speed when it hit the tree, according to the Advocate. The roadway was also wet, police told the Advocate.
