The victim was walking along the shore when he noticed a man, known to some as “Jerry,” keeping pace with him, police said. “Jerry” approached him, saying he had been looking for the victim for three years because the victim once said something derogatory to him, police said.
“Jerry” then took a knife out of his pocket, saying, “I should give this to you right now,” in a “mean and threatening manner,” police said.
While the victim recognized “Jerry,” he denied ever saying anything derogatory to him, police said.
A lifeguard who witnessed the incident told both men to go their separate ways, police said, but “Jerry” continued to argue with the victim and the lifeguard.
The lifeguard alerted his supervisors, who called police. “Jerry” was last seen walking north toward the parking lot, police said.
“Jerry” is described as a white man about 70 years old with a slight limp, police said. Several beach employees told police they recognized him, but no one knew his last name.
Anyone who sees "Jerry" has been advised to call police.
