Police: Pedestrian Pulled From Windshield In Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A pedestrian was hospitalized early Sunday morning after a collision with a car sent him through the vehicle’s windshield, according to Fairfield Police reports. The driver in the case has been charged with driving under the influence, police said.

The crash occurred at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Longfellow and Castle avenues in Fairfield. Emergency crews said they found the car stopped on Castle Avenue with the driver still nearby, and a man stuck in the windshield of a car. Paramedics and firefighters were able to remove the pedestrian from the car, and he was alive and conscious at the time, police said. He was taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport for treatment.

The driver failed a field sobriety test at the scene of the accident, according to police reports. Chad Reck, 21, of Andrassy Avenue later admitted to drinking alcohol earlier in the night, police said. Reck was charged with driving under the influence and released after posting a $1,000 bond.

Fairfield police still are investigating the incident. Other charges might be filed against the driver depending on the victim’s condition, police say.
