The incident began at 2:50 a.m. Tuesday when Trumbull Police were notified that Bridgeport Police were attempting to stop a stolen Dodge Ram pickup truck that heading into Trumbull, police said.
A Trumbull officer began pursuing the trick after it passed him traveling south on Madison Avenue from Buck Hill Road, police said.
The driver attempted to hit police cruisers during the chase, which ended when the truck crashed, police said.
Two Trumbull officers assisted in a short foot pursuit off Russell Road in Bridgeport and apprehended the driver after a brief struggle, police said.
Bridgeport police arrested the driver, identified as Joshua Syarto, 35, of West Haven.
An unidentified passenger ran from the stolen truck after it crashed and eluded officers in the area searching for him, police said.
Shortly after 7 a.m., officers located the passenger while he was walking on Madison Avenue in Trumbull, police said.
The passenger, identified as Matthew Robert Prosnick, 32, of West Haven, was spotted by a police officer, who stopped to speak with him, police said.
Prosnick told the officer he was waiting for a ride, police said. But as the officer was speaking with him, a nearby resident called police to report that a man who matched Prosnick’s description had just stolen a credit card from their vehicle, police said.
Prosnick was found to be in possession of the stolen credit card and 30 packages of heroin, police said.
Police determined that Prosnick was in the stolen vehicle when it crashed, but no charges were filed against him for that incident.
Trumbull Police charged Prosnick with larceny, possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was held on $5,000 bond for court on May 2.
