Police Search For Wallet Thieves In Fairfield Grocery Store

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Fairfield police have released a security video of a couple they believe is distracting an elderly woman in order to take her wallet while grocery shopping.

The Fairfield Police Detective Bureau is investigating the distraction type theft of a purse from a senior citizen in a grocery store.

The incident took place at the Stop & Shop grocery store on Villa Avenue on Friday June 20, the victim told police.

The victim told officers that she had been approached by a woman in one of the aisles who asked for help in locating an item on the shelf, police said. 

The victim told officers she left her cart with purse in it as she went to help the other woman, police said. She believes that is when the man who was with the woman took her wallet, police said. 

On the video, the male suspect is seen reaching into the victim's purse and taking her wallet.
