FAIRFIELD, Conn. — A man was sent to the hospital Monday after he tried to stop someone he found in his car and was run over by the escaping suspect’s truck, police said.

A woman called 911 around 4:40 p.m. to report she found a man lying in the parking lot at Bed Bath & Beyond, bleeding from the head and screaming for help.

The victim, who works nearby, was walking to his car at the end of the day and noticed someone was in it.

He confronted the would-be thief and the suspect got into a black Ford F-250 pickup truck with New York plates and tried to flee the scene, police said

The victim grabbed onto the moving truck and was thrown to the ground and struck, police said.

The vehicle was last seen traveling eastbound on Kings Highway East towards Grasmere Avenue. Patrols searched the area but were unable to locate the truck.

The victim was transported to St. Vincent’s Medical Center with serious but non-life threatening injuries to both legs.

Anyone with information on the truck or the suspect is asked to call Fairfield Police Department at 203-254-4808 or Text-a-Tip to CRIMES (274637).
