The teens — one from Fairfield, one from Easton — led officers on a brief chase through some yards in the Fairfield Beach area after yelling “Run!” and ditching the cart in the road at 10:45 p.m., police said.

Police received reports from residents in the Rowland and Reef road areas who saw the teens in the cart and creeping through lawns. Residents had been texting police for a couple of days, reporting sightings of the cart, which was taken from the Carl J. Dickman Par 3 Golf Course on Old Dam Road.

Each of the boys faces one count of third-degree larceny and one count of interfering with an officer, police said. They are scheduled to appear in court on July 21.
