The homeowner called police and the owner of the window-washing company after discovering the substantial damage on the piece of furniture, police said. The owner of the company returned to the house and consented to a police search of the van, police said.
In an interview with one of the employees, officers determined that Angel Filomeno-Rodriguez, 26, of Bridgeport, was the only employee working on the second floor, where the dressed filled with jewelry was, police said. In a search of Filomeno-Rodriguez, officers found a screwdriver consistent with the tool marks on the dresser, police said.
There was reportedly more than $40,000 in jewelry in the dresser, and there was about $1,000 of damage to the dresser after the attempted break in, police said.
Filomeno-Rodriguez was charged with second-degree criminal mischief and first-degree criminal attempt at larceny. He was released on $2,500 bond and given a court date of Wednesday, May 28.
