Loss prevention agents at the grocery store saw Bridgeport resident Francine Burnett, 46, take a beer off a shelf, drink part of it and put the container back on the shelf before filling a green Stop & Shop bag with Nyquil and toothpaste, police said.

Burnett then went to the store deli, ordered a sandwich and onion rings and sat down at a table in the store and began to eat, without paying, police said.

When officers arrived, Burnett was still at the cafe table, police said. She told officers that the green bag was not hers, but officers found her cellphone at the bottom of the bag, police said. In total, Burnett reportedly ate, drank or took $214 worth of merchandise, police said.

Burnett was charged with sixth-degree larceny and released on a written promise to appear. She is due at Bridgeport Superior Court on Aug. 20.
