School Bus Involved In 3-Vehicle Fairfield Crash

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A three-vehicle accident involving a school bus in Fairfield sent eight people to the hospital with minor injuries Wednesday morning, including four special-needs children, according to police reports.

The accident happened when a driver attempting to turn left onto King Highway East from Berwick Avenue, turned into the path of a school bus heading east on Kings Highway, police said. The impact pushed the car across the road until it hit another car heading west on Kings Highway, police said.

The school bus was carrying five passengers, four of whom were special-needs children between the ages of 10-13, police said. All were taken to local hospitals for medical evaluations as a precaution, as were the three drivers, who all complained of neck pain, police said.

The driver of the turning car, a 22-year-old Colchester resident, was issued an infraction for failure to yield right of way at a stop sign. The accident still is being investigated by Fairfield police.
