FAIRFIELD, Conn. – In a sign that fall is in full force, two leaf blowers were stolen from landscaping companies in Fairfield over the weekend, police said.
Officers were called Friday to a house on Mine Hill Road where a $500 Echo backpack leaf blower had been taken from a property at Hubbel Lane a half-hour before police were contacted, police said.
A Husqvarna backpack leaf blower, also worth $500, was reportedly taken Saturday from the front yard of a house on Loundsbury Road, police said.
The homeowner told officers that she had seen a black man with short hair get into a dark blue Nissan and leave the area at about the time of the theft, police said.
While on route to the house, two officers saw a car matching that description, attempted to turn around and locate the car, but it was gone.
An employee of the landscaping company said he also saw the theft and said the leaf blower had been put into the back seat with the hose hanging out the window, police said.
Police were investigating the thefts.
