Stamford Police Identify Baby As Investigation Continues Into Her Death

STAMFORD, Conn. — Stamford police released the identity of a 2-month-old girl from New Canaan whose "untimely" death is considered suspicious and is under investigation.

Police identified the girl as Bella Redondo, who was born on April 24, 2016. 

"Officers determined that Bella may have passed away under suspicious circumstance and an investigation is underway," Stamford police said in a statement Wednesday.

At approximately 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, Stamford EMS was dispatched to a daycare on the East Side of Stamford, police said. They immediately transported the baby to Stamford Hospital when the baby stopped breathing and resuscitation efforts were put forth, police said. Earlier, police said she had suffered possible head trauma. 

At the hospital, "doctors valiantly tried to save Bella but to no avail," police said. 

At about 6:20 p.m., Bella was pronounced deceased and the police were notified, police said.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was notified and an autopsy is planned for today, police said. 

The State’s Attorney’s Office has been notified and is being updated on the investigation, police said. 

Police said this remains an active investigation, and interviews are underway.

"This is a sad day for the family of Bella Redondo the Stamford Police Department offers our condolences to Bella’s family. This is an ongoing investigation and we hope we could assist in bringing closure to the family," the statement said

Police are not ruling out an accident, medical or other causes, but are keeping all aspects open as they continue to investigate the case, he said..
