Suspect Charged In Attempted Theft From Fairfield Car Dealership

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- A 21-year-old was found hiding in the bushes shortly after a police officer surprised three suspects who were allegedly trying to steal rims and tires from vehicles at a Fairfield automobile dealership early Friday, according to police.

Orlando Rodriguez, 21, of Anthony Street, Bridgeport, was charged with second-degree criminal trespass, interfering with police and criminal liabilities for the acts of another. He was held on $20,000 bond for a later court appearance. 

Fairfield Police Department Deputy Chief Chris Lyddy said the Scap Auto Group dealership on Commerce Drive has been hit by thieves in the past. An officer on patrol around 1:15 a.m. noticed a vehicle parked in the wrong direction at the dealership and investigated. 

Three suspects ran from the scene and after calling in the K-9 unit one suspect found was hiding in bushes about 100 yards away from the dealership, Lyddy said. The suspect allegedly admitted they were there to steal rims and tires from vehicles.

Police are still investigating.
