Suspect Charged in Fairfield Robbery Attempt

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A Bridgeport man was charged with attempted robbery after an alleged incident near the Fairfield train station Wednesday night.

Jeremy Mitchell, 23, was accused of threatening a woman with a gun, but police said they did not find a weapon on him when he was arrested.

The victim told police she was walking along Unquowa Place at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday when she found a car stopped in a driveway, blocking the sidewalk. As she walked around, a man got out of the driver’s seat and told her “I have a gun, but I don’t want to hurt you,” according to police reports. The woman then ran to the Fairfield train station and called police.

The woman described the suspect as a man in his early 20s, with blond hair, police said. She also reported seeing a Hispanic woman with dark hair in the car’s passenger seat, police said.

Police said they found a car and a woman matching the description given by the victim in the parking lot of Blinn’s Toy Store on Unquowa Place. The woman in the car told police the suspect was her boyfriend, and he took off on foot on the Post Road, police said.

Police said they found Mitchell walking in front of Bob’s clothing store after the incident. He was identified by the victim, according to police reports. Police said they did not find a weapon on him or in the car and do not believe he had a gun during the incident.

Police charged Mitchell with attempted robbery, threatening and a breach of the peace. He was held in lieu of a $50,000 bond, and is due in court June 25. Officers also found he had an active warrant for his arrest from Stratford for robbery charges, police said.
