Suspect Charged With Helping In Fairfield Burglary

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A Shelton man was charged with aiding in a burglary of an open garage in Fairfield last month, according to police reports.

A Morehouse Drive resident called police Sept. 20 after seeing a man walking down his driveway, police said. A motor scooter reportedly stolen from a nearby garage that had been left open later was found in some nearby woods. A backpack-style leaf blower valued at $200 also was missing, according to police reports.

The witness described two suspects and a car and gave police a license plate number. The registration was traced to Thomas Byron, 48, of Shelton, police said. Byron also was seen selling items at a Bridgeport pawn shop, according to police reports. He also matched the description of the man driving the car used during the burglary, police said.

Byron was arrested on a warrant while driving in Fairfield Thursday. A total of 29 items that police believe were stolen were found in his car, police said. He also confessed to other burglaries in Monroe and Stratford, according to police reports. Police have identified the other man involved and his arrest is pending, police said.

Byron was charged with conspiracy to commit second-degree burglary, a felony. He was held on a $25,000 bond and is due in court Oct. 26.
