Teen Charged With Reckless Driving In Crash That Injured Warde Student

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The 17-year-old who drove her Jeep Wrangler into a telephone pole and seriously injured a fellow Fairfield Warde High School student has been charged with reckless driving in the May 27 accident, according to the Fairfield Citizen.

The teen, whose age prohibited police from releasing her name, was also charged with violating passenger restrictions. She will appear on Aug. 11 in juvenile court after turning herself in at police headquarters last Friday, according to the Fairfield Citizen.

The vehicles passenger, Lee Faiga, 19, of Fairland Drive, was initially in a coma and in critical condition at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Her condition is improving, reports the Fairfield Citizen.

The Fairfield Warde students had left school at 11:15 a.m. May 27, and according to police were on Knapps Highway when the speeding driver lost control of the Jeep, police said. The Jeep hit the curb and snapped a utility pole in half, police said.

Newly licensed teen drivers in Connecticut can only drive with a parent or guardian, licensed driving instructor or someone over the age of 20 providing instruction in the car.
