The victim was walking on Kings Highway under the I-95 overpass near Staples Plaza when he was confronted by a light-skinned Hispanic man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and khaki pants, police said.
The victim said the man grabbed his cellphone, which he was using as a flashlight, and a physical struggle ensued, police said. The victim dropped the phone and the suspect grabbed it and ran off, police said.
The victim was transported to St. Vincent’s Medical Center with a minor cut on his leg, police said. It was unclear whether the cut was made by the knife, police said.
The phone is described as a silver Apple iPhone 6S in a teal-colored plastic case.
A Norwalk K-9 and a Fairfield K-9 were used to search the area, and the dogs led their handlers to the area around Bigelow Tea headquarters and then the nearby train station, police said. The scent was lost at the train station, police said.
The case is under investigation.
