Dawn Fitts, 50, was stopped by loss prevention officials shortly after leaving the grocery store, police said. She had filled a cart with mostly fish and meats and bypassed the checkout lines with $952.72 worth of food, police said.
When asked whether she has a possible criminal past, police said Fitts responded by saying she may have “25 years ago, but never for shoplifting.”
Further investigation showed Fitts to be a convicted felon, authorities said.
Fairfield Police charged Fitts with fifth-degree larceny and released her on a promise to appear in court on Jan. 16.
