Two Charged In Thefts At Fairfield's Home Depot

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Two suspects were charged Thursday in connection with separate thefts at Fairfield’s Home Depot store earlier this year, according to police reports.

James Cuneo, 44, of West Haven, was accused of stealing approximately $6,389 in merchandise from the Kings Highway store in three incidents in March and June. In all cases two men pulled up to the store’s front sidewalk display, cut the wiring holding them to the display and loaded them into cars, police say. The stolen items included backpack-style leaf blowers, a ride-on lawnmower and a wood chipper, according to police reports.

Home Depot stores in other towns across the state have reported similar thefts by suspects with the same description. Police matched Cuneo’s Department of Corrections photos with security camera footage of one of the two men, police say. Cuneo is currently awaiting trial on theft charges from North Branford, West Haven, New Haven, Glastonbury and Southington, according to state judicial system records.

Cuneo was charged with third-degree larceny, a felony, in the Fairfield incidents. He was  arraigned Thursday and held on a $5,000 bond.

Kevin Currytto, 41, of Bridgeport, was charged with shoplifting in an incident on July 12 at the same store. In that case a man entered the store and loaded two tool kits with a total value of $859 into a shopping cart, and then ran out of the store without paying, according to police reports. The security guard told police that he recognized Currytto as the suspect from previous shoplifting cases, police say.

Currytto was in police custody after being charged with larceny in Milford on Aug. 21, according to state judicial records. Fairfield Police arrested him at Bridgeport Superior Court on Thursday morning. He was charged with third-degree larceny, a felony. He was arraigned Thursday and held on a $5,000 bond.
