City spokesperson Av Harris said that the accident happened at around 8:20 a.m. near the intersection of Park Avenue and North Avenue. A male and a female crossing guard were both hit by one car and dragged for at least 25 feet.

The male had two broken legs and was in stable condition at St. Vincent's Hospital, Harris said.

The driver had just dropped her daughter off at school and "apparently blacked out at the wheel," Harris said. She stayed at the scene following the accident.

"Obviously this is a very serious accident and we are glad there were no further injuries," Harris said.
