Unidentified Body Found In Westport’s Saugatuck River

WESTPORT, Conn. — The body of an unidentified person was pulled from the Saugatuck River in Westport by police and fire crews on Friday morning, police said.

The body was discovered at about 9:15 a.m. at the mouth of the river by a duck hunter who was on a kayak, police said. The hunter stayed with the body until emergency crews arrived, Capt. Vincent Penna said.

Using a boat, detectives and firefighters pulled the body to shore, Penna said. The body was transported to the chief medical examiner’s office in Farmington. Police did not say whether the victim was male or female.

“Identification of the deceased will be pending notification of the family and more information will be forthcoming as it is developed,” Penna said in a statement.

The incident is being investigated by the Westport Police Detective Bureau.
