Officers got a report that a man, later identified as Divine Little, 20, of Osbourne Street, deposited a fraudulent check at the Citibank on Post Road East and was attempting to withdraw the funds at the Post Road West branch, police said.

The forged check was manipulated by changing the routing number to make the funds available almost immediately, police said.

Bank employees did not complete the transaction and Little left the bank. Officers stopped the car he was in on the Post Road and a bank employee identified him, police said.

Rayon Williams, 20, Maple Street, was driving the car and a second passenger, Mikequan Brown, 22 of Gates Avenue, was found in possession of fraudulent checks and money orders, police said.

Each was arrested and charged with third-degree larceny, third-degree forgery, conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny and third-degree forgery, first-degree identity theft and conspiracy to commit identity theft, police said.

They were each held on $10,000 and are scheduled to appear in court on Aug 3.

Earlier this month, Williams was arrested in Fairfield when he drove off an I-95 exit ramp and hit signs and a standing traffic signal post before fleeing the scene, police there reported.
