Carmello Dekane, 30, and Jermaine Cowan, 35, both of New Haven, were charged with fourth-degree larceny, second-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit fourth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit second-degree robbery. Dekane also was charged with engaging in a pursuit. Each was held on $85,000 bond.

Police received a report at about 10 a.m. of a robbery at the TD Bank on the Post Road. A description of the suspects' vehicle was broadcast, and the car later was spotted traveling east on the Post Road near Compo Road, according to police.

Police tried stopping the vehicle, but the driver refused to halt, police said. A pursuit began but was called off due to traffic and road conditions, according to police. The car was then seen getting onto the Merritt Parkway near Wilton Road and heading west in the eastbound lanes, police said.

An unmarked Westport police car followed onto the Merritt, traveling in the correct lanes, and saw the suspect car get into an accident with two other cars, police said. Officers then saw the two suspects flee the accident scene on foot, heading into a nearby wooded area, police said.

After a short foot chase, one of the suspects was apprehended and taken into custody without incident, police said.

Police from Westport, Norwalk, Wilton, New Canaan and the state police assisted in searching the area for the second suspect. He was taken into custody about 25 minutes later without incident, police said.
