The student, who has not been identified by police or FBI agents investigating the incident, stated “violence” would take place at a school near his or her home on Sept. 8, police said.

The FBI traced the threat back to the Westport student, police said.

The student’s parents were notified and were cooperative with investigators, police said. The student was interviewed by the FBI and Westport police.

The student was charged with second-degree breach of peace and second-degree threatening.

At no time did the youth have access to any weapons, police said.

“The Westport Police Department has been working closely with Westport Public School administrators and we are confident the safety of students is not in jeopardy,” read a statement released Wednesday night by Westport Police Lt. Jill Cabana. “Additionally, the school administration will be addressing the issue and following up with appropriate disciplinary action.”

No other details were made available Wednesday.
