FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A Bridgeport woman was charged with driving under the influence and shoplifting after she allegedly led officers on a chase to avoid arrest, police say.
Lavie Lash, 52, was accused of shoplifting $425 worth of items from Kohl’s department store Sunday, according to police reports. When she saw officers outside the store, the suspect got into a minivan and drove away, leading police toward Kings Highway and onto North Avenue in Bridgeport. During the chase she drove over the speed limit, passed cars illegally and ran red lights, police say.
When police stopped Lash they found that the car she was driving was not registered and had license plates for another vehicle, according to police reports. They also believed she was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, police say.
Lash was charged with sixth-degree larceny, driving under the influence, failure to obey an officer’s signal and engaging police in pursuit, all misdemeanors. She was also issued motor vehicle infractions for reckless driving, misuse of plates, operating an unregistered vehicle and failure to have insurance. Bond was set at $500, and she is due in court Oct. 15.
