The 3:57 a.m. pileup of three vehicles, including a truck from New Jersey, shut down the interstate for nearly and hour and a half.
At the time of the crash, the truck, a Freightlin TT owned by a company in Jersey City, was traveling northbound in the center of three lanes, according to police.
The second vehicle, a Chevy Silverado, owned by a company in Orange, whose driver is from Wallingford, was traveling north of the truck in the left lane, said police.
The third vehicle, owned and driven by someone from Orange was a Buick Encore, reportedly traveling the wrong way in the left lane, directly ahead of the pickup truck, according to police.
The Silverado then steered into the median shoulder in an attempt to avoid the Buick, said police.
The Buick's front right corner then struck the Silverado's front right corner. The impact caused the Silverado to strike the concrete median barrier and then come to a final stop in the left lane, according to police.
The impact also caused the Buick to roll onto its left side and come to a final stop in the right lane, said police
The Buick rolled across the center lane in front of the truck. The truck steered to the left to avoid vehicle the Buick, according to police. The truck then struck the Silverado's left, rear corner with the ride side of its trailer, said police.
The drivers of the Silverado and Buick were taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, according to police.
The truck driver was apparently not injured, said the police report.
The Milford Police Department assisted in directing traffic on the highway closed in the area for one and a half hours for removal of the vehicles.
