Local Democrats welcomed him at Monday's Democratic Town Committee monthly meeting.

Kiley recently registered as a Democrat. His service as a Republican include a four-year run, from 1993 to 1997, on the Republican Town Committee. Kiley also served on the Board of Finance from 2007 to 2012 and the Board of Selectmen from 2012 to 2015.

“We are pleased to welcome Kevin into the Democratic Party," the committee said in a statement. "Kevin has a strong record of service to our town and is committed to our shared values. We will all benefit from his unique perspective and talents.”

In his remarks to members, Kiley said, “I am proud to announce that I have chosen to affiliate as a Fairfield Democrat. Simply put, my core values and my views on local government are aligned with yours. I am grateful to the Fairfield Democrats for welcoming me to the party and I am eager to continue serving the Town of Fairfield."

Kiley isn't the only Democrat to make the change this past year.

Democratic Town Committee member Carolyn Trabuco changed parties over the summer. Also,  a past Republican Board of Education member John Convertito changed from Republican to Democrat.
