Fairfield Dems To Honor Former Leader Saturday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Former Representative Town Meeting Majority Leader Doug Jones will receive the Fairfield Democratic Committee’s annual Sullivan Award for Outstanding Service this Saturday, and you’re invited to attend.

The honor, named after former First Selectman John Sullivan, is given each year to a Democrat who “who has served the party and community with distinction encompassing community service and sustained political activity and leadership.” Jones was chosen by a group of party and district leaders.

Since joining the Democratic Town Committee in 1999, Jones has served on a wide range of town boards, including the Representative Town Meeting (2001-07), the Greater Bridgeport Regional Planning Agency (2007-09) and the Conservation Commission (2009-11). He currently is a member of the Fairfield Warde Roof Building Committee.

Jones also volunteers with Habitat for Humanity and the Westbridge Coalition. He also is a past committee chair of Cub Scout Pack 88, based at Jennings School. Professionally, he worked in magazine and book publishing for 35 years.

You can join the Democratic Town Committee in honoring Jones at its award ceremony. The event will take place at the Fairfield Museum and History Center, 370 Beach Road in Fairfield from 4:30-7 p.m. A wine and cheese reception will follow.
