FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield is in a good place, First Selectman Mike Tetreau said during his State of the Town address, and he’s looking forward to the coming year.

Among the projects that Tetreau spoke about is the ongoing efforts to make town and school buildings safer for students and employees. But he pointed out that only a small percentage of shootings around the country take place at schools -- 80 percent of the shootings happen elsewhere.

Communication and technology are also high on the list of things to look to in 2014, Tetreau said in the Monday address.

“We will have an updated town website in the next few months,” he said. With the funding from the Greater Bridgeport Regional Council, the town will also be implementing a new Geographical Information System, GIS, to provide better maps for the town and residents, which will be particularly useful during storm events.

The town will also be continuing to work on the two- to three-year cleanup efforts of the Mill River and Exide site thanks to the efforts of town committees and representatives.

This year the town also celebrates its 375th anniversary, and groups around the town will be helping to mark the occasion with year filled with festivities.
