To the Editor:
Connecticut has been heading in the wrong direction for many years. We rank at or near the bottom in so many categories, one of the most harmful of these rankings is our debt per citizen, we have the highest in the nation.
Businesses, young people and retirees are fleeing Connecticut at a record rate. Yet, our elected officials on the Democratic side of the aisle in Hartford are not getting the clear message. The message being sent by employers such as GE, who decided, after years of dedication to the Town of Fairfield and Connecticut that they had had enough of the fiscal irresponsibility by our political state leadership. Connecticut has been a one party — bluest of blue states — for too many years and the result of unchecked spending and fiscal policy has been devastating.
Cristin McCarthy Vahey is one of the many Democrats we need to vote out of office to gain a Republican majority and return Connecticut to a fiscally responsible state. Vahey has voted with the Governor Malloy and democratic leaders 98 percent of the time over the last two years. Vahey is a politician who is devoutly loyal to her party leadership and Malloy, she votes along party lines even when it means the good of the State and our town of Fairfield takes a back seat.
We need a change. The voters of Fairfield need to send a message to all our politicians that we do not appreciate these types of games. We need politicians who will lead and not just follow. Politicians who will do the right thing for the sake of fiscal responsibility and make the tough choices.
We need to stop the tyranny of one-party rule in Hartford and allow the Republicans a chance to have a say in the policy making that will allow Connecticut to again become a vibrant location for businesses to want to move here, where jobs can be created and where our children will stay to raise their families because they don’t need to move to find work.
I have lived in Connecticut all my life and am very proud to be a resident here, it really hurts me to see our demise, to see the real estate for sale signs up all over Fairfield as I have never seen before. I want our state to once again be a top consideration for companies looking to expand, major employers can be attracted here, we just need to encourage them by changing our tax policies and providing a budget that is balanced and stays within our means. The deficit spending must stop.
Ray Neuberger is a dedicated individual who is not afraid to make tough choices and stand with the taxpayers of Connecticut. The time has come for a change and I hope you will join me in supporting Ray Neuberger for State Representative on Nov. 8.
