To the Editor:

If you want to fix the problems in Hartford, it is absolutely crucial for Fairfield voters to elect Republicans to the State Legislature. So, Nov. 8, please remember to vote for Brenda Kupchick as your state representative if you live in the 132nd District, for Ray Neuberger in the 133rd or Laura Devlin in the 134th, as well as Tony Hwang for state senate representing all of Fairfield.

For more than 40 years, Democrats have controlled both the State Senate and General Assembly, often with veto-proof majorities, essentially giving them complete, one-party control of the state’s budget and legislative agenda throughout (even during the terms of Republican governors). Their record has been disastrous for the state.

Today, Connecticut has a higher unemployment rate than the national average and we rank among states with the highest cost of living and highest debt per capita. Three of our cities are ranked among the most dangerous in the country and we are considered one of the worst states in which to do business.

The Democrat belief that you can simply balance budgets on the backs of businesses and taxpayers has failed. In fact, we are faced with huge budget deficits despite having some of the highest tax rates in the country. Businesses, like GE, are fleeing the state, taking jobs and tax revenue with them. GE said there was nothing that would keep them in Connecticut. Shockingly, they said they simply did not trust the vision and direction of the current Democrat leadership in Hartford.

All along, Republicans have proposed reasonable, common-sense ideas for controlling spending and reducing taxes but Democrats refuse to compromise even though their own ideas have proven to fail.

Democrat policies are running Connecticut into the ground, just like they did to our once prosperous industrial cities, like Bridgeport and Hartford. So, how could we ever trust them to fix a mess they created? That’s why it is so crucial to elect Republicans to the State Legislature.

Yes, the Republican candidates mentioned above are all familiar names; we are fortunate to have Hwang, Kupchick and Devlin already representing us in Hartford, and Ray Neuberger is a two-term member of the Fairfield’s RTM. Each has proven their utter devotion to our community and to addressing the issues we face. I’m so proud to support such an outstanding group of individuals who I know will be a part of the solution in Hartford.
