Sen. Tony Hwang nominated Kupchick at the convention. "For nearly 20 years, Brenda has been a caring, considerate and passionate advocate for Fairfield, starting as a citizen educational advocate to eventually serving with distinction as a Board of Education member," he said. "Her character and commitment to public service reflect the legacy of her mentor and friend, the late 132nd state Rep. Carl Dickman. I am honored and proud to endorse Brenda."

Alexa Mullady, Parks & Recreation Commissioner, seconded the nomination, applauding "Brenda’s advocacy and tenacity for constituents saying she fights for Fairfield regardless of political party, the people of Fairfield are like family to Brenda."

Former state Sen. John McKinney also spoke on her behalf.

"Brenda Kupchick is the hardest working and most dedicated representative I met during my 16 years representing Fairfield in the state legislature," McKinney said. "Through her tireless advocacy, Brenda produced real results for the people of Fairfield. Her continued leadership is needed now more than ever to help get Connecticut moving in the right direction. I'm proud to support Brenda."

In her acceptance speech Kupchick explained how she came to seek public office.

"I first decided to run for local because I was tired of politicians ignoring the voices of my friends and neighbors," she said. "Today, I see how the entrenched majority in Hartford is ignoring the voices of people in Fairfield and across the state.

"As a fourth generation Fairfield resident, I have a deep love for our town and state. But our government has lost its way. I have tried to earn the confidence shown in me by working hard to represent our community, listening and learning (and) always having the courage of my convictions while fighting for issues important to Fairfield."

Kupchick is a member of the legislature’s committees on Energy and Technology, Insurance and Real Estate and is the House Ranking member of the Housing Committee.
